Ice boat Sperwer

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised the Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) to grant a claim to the ice boat Sperwer. The ice boat was stolen from its Jewish owner during the Second World War. The object currently belongs to the Dutch National Art Collection and is in the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. The Minister has accepted the advice and the ice boat will be handed over to the former owner’s family. As far as the Restitutions Committee is concerned this is an exceptional case because this is the first time it has given advice about an application for the restitution of an antique means of transport.

Claim to Salomon Koninck painting rejected

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee advised the Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) to reject a claim to a painting by Salomon Koninck in the Dutch National Art Collection. The Minister has accepted this recommendation.

Koenigs collection Kiev claim rejected

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised Minister of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker to reject a claim to a part of the Koenigs collection which was returned from Kiev, Ukraine, in 2004. This advice has been accepted.

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised Minister of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker to restitute a painting by Jan van Goyen in the Dutch National Art Collection to the daughter of its Jewish owner. The Minister has accepted the advice.

Koenigs collection claim rejected

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised Minister of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker to let an earlier decision to reject the Koenigs claim stand. This advice has been accepted.
The advice issued on 12 November 2013 concerns 34 paintings and 37 drawings from the pre-war art collection of the banker Franz Wilhelm Koenigs. In the case of a few paintings it was not possible to ascertain with certainty they were in the collection, but it has been established for the majority of the artworks.

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised the Minister for Education, Culture and Science (OCW) Jet Bussemaker to return three ceramic dishes from the National Art Collection to the daughter of the Jewish owner. The Minister has accepted this recommendation.

Opinions regarding claims to paintings in four Dutch museums

THE HAGUE – The Restitutions Committee has published four binding expert opinions regarding claims to paintings in Dutch museums. The works in question are Dune Landscape with Deer Hunt by Gerrit Claesz Bleker in the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, Madonna and Child with Wild Roses by Jan van Scorel in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, Christ and the Samaritan Woman at the Well by Bernardo Strozzi in Museum de Fundatie in Heino/Wijhe and River View with Mooring by Maerten Fransz van der Hulst in the Groninger Museum’s collection. The last of these paintings must be returned to the grandchildren of the heir of the former owner, Richard Semmel. The other three paintings do not have to be returned.
