RESTITUTIONS COMMITTEE ISSUES THREE RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING CLAIMS TO STOLEN WORKS OF ART

The Restitutions Committee is publishing three recommendations, which were issued in recent months. In these, the Committee advises the State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science to return two works of art to the former owners' heirs. The State Secretary will adopt the recommendations.

RECOMMENDATION: ART COLLECTION WITH JAN VAN GOYEN BACK TO HEIRS

THE HAGUE - The State of the Netherlands must return a collection of paintings, including works by Jan van Goyen and C. Engelbrechtsz, to the heirs of their former owner. This is the recommendation issued by the Restitutions Committee, which has also judged that the heirs must pay EUR 325,000 for the paintings.

RESTITUTIONS COMMITTEE ISSUES THREE RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING CLAIMS TO LOOTED ART

The Restitutions Committee has advised the State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science on three claims to works of art from the Dutch National Art Collection. The Committee recommends the restitution of two of the three claimed works of art to the former owners’ heirs. The State Secretary has adopted the recommendations.

BINDING ADVICE ON RESTITUTION OF TOOROP PAINTING

Under the first binding advice issued by the Restitutions Committee, which is responsible for providing advice concerning claims on looted works of art, Rotterdam Municipal Council is required to return the painting Thames at London by Jan Toorop to the heirs of its former owner, upon payment of €30,397.50.

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised Minister Plasterk on four claims to a total of 33 works of art from the Dutch National Art Collection. The Committee recommends returning four of these works to the heirs of the former owners.

THE HAGUE - The Restitutions Committee has advised the State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science on four claims to a total of 23 works of art from the Dutch National Art Collection. The Committee recommends the restitution of five works of art to the former owners’ heirs. The State Secretary has adopted the recommendations.
